Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) - Activities associated with eating, toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, transferring, mobility and medication management.
Adult Foster Care Facility - Adult Foster Care (AFC) homes are residential settings that provide 24-hour personal care, protection, and supervision for individuals who are developmentally disabled, mentally ill, physically handicapped or aged who cannot live alone but who do not need continuous nursing care.
Alzheimer's Disease - A progressive disease that affects the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking and behavior.
Ambulatory - The ability to walk.
Dementia - The loss or impairment of mental abilities, such as memory.
Disclosure Contract - Provides information on all aspects of the Assisted Living community's agreement with the resident/tenant. The landlord or licensee and the tenant or resident usually signs this contract.
Home Care, Home Health Care - Health care or other services rendered in the resident's home by outside caregivers who regularly visit.
Home for the Aged - A Home for the Aged (HFA) is a supervised personal care facility, other than a hotel, adult foster care facility, hospital, nursing home, or county medical care facility that provides room, board, and supervised personal care to 21 or more unrelated, non-transient individuals who are 60 years of age or older.
Hotel-type Services - Non-personal care services such as housekeeping, laundry, meals, transportation or social activities.
Housing with Services Establishment - Usually an apartment building style living with contracts or leases based on tenant / landlord laws.
Incontinence - Loss of bladder or bowel control.
Independent Apartments - Apartments for tenants who either have no need for assistance or contract for any services needed from an agency of their own choosing.
Long-term Care Insurance - An insurance product that can pay or help pay the costs of long-term care services.
Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services (MDCIS), Bureau of Regulatory Services (BRS) - The state agency responsible for inspecting and regulating adult foster care and home for the aged residences.
Mobility - Ability to move about.
Private Pay - Paying for services from a person's own financial resources without the assistance of government programs.
Rental Agreement - A tenant / landlord agreement stating the terms of an apartment rental or lease.
Resident Care Agreement - An agreement signed by the licensee and the resident on care services to be provided by the home or residence.
Resident Assessment - A review of resident needs by the licensee.
Services Addendum - An addition or addendum to the admissions contract that lists the services available to be provided by the home and the cost of each service.
